So first off in the morning, bus ride to Siem reap! Haha, I actually considered buying some breakfast but I assumed that there will be breakfast sold at the bus station. But I didn't expect the minibus to come pick me up directly at encounters and then others before going straight to Siem reap
The bus ride was super bumpy...坐到我屁股痛. But my greatest worry is actually that I have no idea where they are letting us alight.
We ended up alighting at some unknown place. As usual, once we alight, the touting starts. Was trying to figure out where I am but they were not a single road signs to point out where I was. Soon enough I was approached by this Cambodian who offered me a ride
I let him know that I have a hostel reservation, and he asked if he can drive me there. So I said Advisor, and he replied villa (like one of those password). Then the problem arose. He wanted to drive me there in his motorbike. Haiz...I'm not exactly v comfortable with the motorbike (given that I have a terrible sense of balance, and I have a slight fear of riding bicycles). But ultimately, the scorching sun got the better of me, and so I left with him. He was a nice chap, charging only a dollar and ensuring that I am at my destination before taking off
Upon reaching advisor, I was slightly disappointed to learn that they were out of electricity, and so, the wifi and flushing system weren't working as well. Apparently, it costs 12usd to rent to tuk tuk around Angkor wat, but it increases astronomically to 40usd if I wanna see the sunrise. To be honest, I'm quite broke already. Forgoing free breakfast and another $28 is too high a price
Started to slack in the room...without the aircon and the ceiling fan. So just spend my time reading my ebook, the honest truth about dishonesty, and took a short nap. Haha, I actually heard cheers as the light came on! Of course, wifi is king!
Decided to visit the old market and to look for dinner. Found an optical shop along the way and decide to pop in. Had my eyes checked and bought 2 pair of glasses, 1 usual pair and 1 sunglasses. I foresee much reliance on my sunglasses given the rest of the trips under such scorching weather, in India, and my trekking trip in Malaysia
I bought soap! Suppose to be made from some spices. Haha, ppl who have travelled with me knows that I usually dun bring soap and toothpaste :p
Ended up having pizza, and walking around the market looking for cheap shoes to replace my current pair (it's my dad's actually. I'm suppose to wear till it falls apart and get a new pair). The markets everywhere are starting to look v similar, so just came back and did a bit of laundry
The foot long garlic bread that came with the pizza. I was so famished that I was half way through the pizza when I realise I didn't take a picture of it :/
This is more like my kind of place! Saw "pride and prejudice" for $3.50. So tempted to buy it, but I really have a ton of backlog to clear :/
Mark
Slacking the day away!
PS: I actually have a 2-man room all to myself...but they put a v scary portrait of a face right in front. A little creepy...
